After School

In the after school we decided that at the start we would have the victims from each scene to say a short entry to their diary as it would link with their section, we also did the same with the main bullys but at the end of the performance. We then started to decide what transtaction we where going to use, and if it was going to be the same for each one. We all decided to make the performance seem more realistic to have there be a school bell go off and everyone just walking around being busy and then about 30secs after that another bell goes off and everyone who isnt the scene which is being performed walks off the side. I  though this would be a really effective way as it would make the performance seem as if its in a school which would hopefuly bring the fact that there are alot more people being bullied that you realise for the audience.

Lesson Five

Today lesson we where carrying on with our scenes and developing them further. Our lesson objective was to add more physical theatre..
We were performning when we decided to change the way that we where acting instead of trying to be all bad/chavy we wanted to the opposite (plastic) bitchy girls which linked in with the first section, James and Abbies as they are plastice. We thought this was more effective as it wasnt you steriotypical bully someone who was bad. We made it so we would use physical (fighting) at the sleepover where the victim was invited because of something she had apparently said about the main bully.
We all felt that this would be better as it would bring humour to the performance as we obviouslt want to get the message through but we dont want it all to be depressing and down.

Lesson Four

Todays lesson Sarah gave us the deadline which is the 7th December, we all decided that for costume we would just wear everyday realistic clothes as we wanted to make it seem normal for the aoudience. Our target for today was to block and strat working on how we will show our scene.

We decided to change Becki and Autumn around so Becki became the victim and autum the main bully, we started with Becki sitting in the middly on a chair and Autumn walking on from the back behing her and higher (show status levels) and then me and April walk on telling Becki that Autumns talking to her then we took her a bag and i stole her ipod, then a vocal collage while walking around Becki (high status) shouting and calling her names.

Lesson Three

Todays lesson we had to start on the structuring of the performance. We spent the lesson talking about everyones ideas, we decicded to change the ending of the bullys section as we felt it wasnt realistic with them all killing themselves and we didnt want our audience to feel freaked out by the fact loads of people their age are killing themselves over bullying even though we still want them to understand ita a serious matter.

We then thought it would be better if we seperated into groups of three/four. this was because we wanted 5scenes to show a variation of bullying these were;
  • Verbal abuse (walking to school)
  • Syber bullying (facebook)
  • Paranoyed (believe what's being said)
  • Physical (fighting) - could make it look abstract.
  • Exclusion (lack of self belief and no comunication)
I was put into the Physical Scene which Autumn, Becki and April

Lesson Two

Sarah told us today that we would be performing to Learning Skills.
Todays lesson we where going to focus on the Narrative as it would be better for the audience as it would give them a better understanding and for them to feel more emotion during the performance. As a group we said different formats some of these were;
  • Poem
  • News reader
  • Diary
  • Music
  • Victim as Narrator or bully
These were the main ideas that the group felt stong about as we would be able to fit a range of different techniques. Then we where split into two groupsone half would work on the victim the other the bully. I was working on the victim, we then had to decided what format we would want to use our group decided to use the Diary and have it as us writing a short entry, we then all sorted out a rough block..

  • Day it started
  • Getting worse
  • The worse part of the bullying
  • Excluding herself from life and her just breaking/cracking
  • The final entry
We then decided to have two people in the group to work on each section and write a short draft of the victims entry, i was with April...

 31st October 2010

Dear Diary,
I've made my decision. I don't want this any more, I've been planning this for weeks, everything is set out, anything is better then this. How can they not notice anything is different about me? There my own parents! I shouldn't be angry. This is my last goodbye, I love you all. x

Lesson One

I was not in school when Sarah introduced our new project which was Bullying. But i have been able to read the news paper article and poem.

Poem;
I found this reallly effective how at the end it says 'i am a person just like you' as it really graps the readers attention, in a way where it makes them feel that this victim is letting them know that they are equal and shouldn't be treated differently or picked on because of the way they look or act. Compared to the newspaper article it really contrast as the victim doesnt let the bully take ove,r instead the victim is the one whos incontrol.

'I am'
I am the person you bullied in school
I am the one who didn't know how to be cool
I am the person you alienated
I am the person you ridiculed and hated

I am the person who sat on their own
I am the person who walked home alone
I am the person you scared every day
I am the person who had nothing to say

I am the person with hurt in their eyes
I am the person you never saw cry
I am the person living alone with their fears
I am the person destroyed by their peers

I am the person who drowned in your scorn
I am the person who wished they hadn't been born
I am the person whose name you don't know
I am the person who just can't let go

I am the person destroyed for 'fun'
I am the person, but not the only one
I am the person who had feelings too
..and I am a person, JUST LIKE YOU!!!

Newpaper Article;
I found this a emotional story but i though it was awful that the police were trying to blame it on the girl as they believed it was attention seeking also her friends and the head teacher believed she was just making it worse for herself. the fact that she killed herself could of suggested that she was looking for attention that she wasnt recieving so that obviously shows how low she was feeling.
Bullied schoolgirl hanged herself with tie
AN "EXCEPTIONALLY GIFTED" 13-YEAR-OLD BULLYING VICTIM WHO DREAMED OF BECOMING A PILOT HANGED HERSELF FROM A BUNK BED USING HER SCHOOL TIE, AN INQUEST HAS HEARD.
By Richard Savill 4:12PM BST 25 Jun 2008
Cherelle Ardle was having "extreme problems" with bullying at her school and was finding it difficult to interact with other pupils, the hearing was told.
She had been locked in a cupboard and dragged down the stairs and once needed hospital treatment after a playground fight.
On the evening of December 3 last year, her lifeless body was found by stepfather Dale Evans in her bedroom at her home in Kennard Street, Ton Pentre, South Wales.
The inquest heard how the teenager wrote a suicide note on a blank page of a maths exercise book.
The note ended with the words: "I'm about to hang myself. If I keep writing after this, it hasn't worked."
Mr Evans told the inquest in Miskin, South Wales: "She was being bullied at school. There had been some trouble at school that day and I picked her up early.
"She went up to her room and had a bath but then stayed in her bedroom. I went to check on her at 8.30pm and found her hanging."
Trudy Robinson, a respite foster carer, who looked after the girl one weekend each month, told the inquest: "She was having extreme problems with bullying at school.
"She had been dragged downstairs and locked in a cupboard and had been taken to hospital on one occasion."
She described the girl as "exceptionally gifted academically and beautiful to look at", adding: "She was a joy to look after and liked to help in every way she could.
"She had just joined the Air Cadets and she had told me she wanted to be a pilot which I thought was a fabulous idea."
The inquest heard the Treorchy Comprehensive School pupil went to her bedroom after a row with her mother Deborah Evans over missing money from a money-box, which she eventually admitted taking.
Det Insp Nigel Cottle said: "Cherelle was generally the victim of bullying at school but on certain occasions she was the assailant in her own right. She had no problems with teachers but she had difficulty interacting with other pupils."
In a statement to police, her mother spoke of concerns about the bullying and said she felt it "impacted on Cherelle's quality of life".
The inquest also heard the girl was involved in a relationship with an older man, which was subject to an ongoing investigation by South Wales Police.
The coroner Philip Walters described the girl, from Ton Petre, Rhondda, as an intelligent and articulate teenager.
Recording an open verdict, Mr Walters said: "I really don't know why this has happened. It might be due to one thing, it might be due to a number of things.
"What I am satisfied is that I honestly don't think that this young lady intended to end her own life."
He said he was convinced the suicide note was a "cry for help" or was possibly to draw attention to herself.
Mr Walters also issued a warning to others who might be similarly tempted.
He said: "Young people are often not aware that if you tie a ligature around your neck it takes as little as five seconds to render you unconscious.
"Thereafter, death can occur any time up to quarter-of-an-hour.
"If you go down this route, this is final. There is no coming back."
